Background:

Signe Baumane happened upon early pictures of dentists in the bathroom of a New York dental office and decided to animate a short titled Dentists. She showed it to her own dentist, who suggested that she make advertisements for his dental supply company, and Five Infomercials for Dentists was born. She says that he had no idea what to make of them, “so my whole enterprising mission…failed.”

How did you get started in animation?:

“I think that animation and philosophy work hand in hand,” said Signe Baumane, who studied philosophy at Moscow University. “I never learned to draw, and I never learned animation. But my passion is to tell a story and to be funny.”

Synopsis
